If you are to name the most annoying pest in your home, cockroaches should be the number one. These household pests pose a potential threat to human health.  They are very difficult to control in homes because of their reproductive capabilities. Their nesting and feeding habit makes it easier for them to be able to disease-causing pathogens such as Bacteria, viruses, Fungi, and parasites on their bodies.

Diseases such as Dysentry, Hepatitis, Pneumonia, E Coli, e.t.c are spread by this pest.  They contaminate any food substances they come across causing illness to humans.

Unlike mosquitoes, cockroaches transmit diseases from food items they have come across with rather than through bites.

HOW DO COCKROACHES SPREAD DISEASES IN OUR HOMES

Cockroaches are known to have bad sanitary eating habits this is why they are usually found in sewers, bins, and other dirty places. When they feast on something contaminated such as spoilt food or feces, the microorganisms in the contaminated food or feces will enter their body and lay dormant in their digestive system. So when they come across food items in the homes, they rub past them and contaminate them thereby causing diseases to humans.

  2. Cholera
  3. Dysentry
  4. Leprosy
  5. Typhoid fever
  6. Salmonellosis

HOW TO CONTROL COCKROACHES IN HOMES

The following are ways to control cockroaches in homes;

  1. Store food in sealed plastics.
  2. Keep refuse out of your homes.
  3. Used pesticides to control them when found in your homes.
  4. Keep homes clean always.
  5. Fix plumbing leaks and control moisture levels.
  6. Clean used cutlery and crockery immediately.
  7. Keep your toilet clean at all times.
  8. Eliminate old newspapers, used shopping bags.
  9. Watch dirty clothes immediately.
  10. Remove pet food, water, and animal droppings immediately.
